IU, Yoo In Na, and KARA’s Nicole will be channeling Madonna for the opening stage of SBS’s “2010 Entertainent Awards“, scheduled for December 30th.

The three “Heroes” members will be wearing wedding dresses to perform a sexy choreography that confirms Yoo In Na’s confession on “Strong Heart” of almost debuting as a girl group member. Fans are also excited to see IU’s bridal transformation, as her previous maid costume garnered a hot response nation-wide.

[Ne\ws] KARA sells over 200,000 units of their first album in just one month

KARA has managed to sell 200,000 units of their first Japanese album, ‘Girl’s Talk‘, in just one month after its release.

According to the Oricon Chart on December 28th, KARA’s ‘Girl’s Story’ ranked in at 8th place for the weekly album chart; the girls have sold 21,933 units alone this week. Having placed 2nd on the same weekly chart for selling 100,000 units in its first week, KARA has sold 206,845 units in total during its first month.

Having recently received a Platinum Award for their ‘Mister‘ ringtone (over 250,000 downloads), KARA is expected to receive another Platinum Award from the Japanese Record Association in January if the rate of their album sales continue in this upward trend.

Since the Japanese Record Association combines album sales that are not reflected in the Oricon, KARA could receive their Platinum Award as early as the first week of January. This will not only be a first achievement for any Korean girl group, but they’ll also be the second Korean group to receive the award after TVXQ. Seeing as how TVXQ sold 200,000-300,000 albums for each of their official albums, KARA’s accomplishments are nothing less than extraordinary.

It's not like that for us. In our case, the two of us (Gyuri and Seungyeon) started to learn earlier, and they (the three younger girls) are actively talking to people very often. With that practice, their skills are improving quickly.

Q6b: So Nicole can speak 3 languages. It was hard to learn Korean, was it harder to learn Japanese?

[Nicole]
Actually, learning Japanese is a lot harder, because I have to learn Japanese based on Korean, using Korean instead of English. Through the process of learning Japanese, I have also learned so many new Korean words. It would be a little bit easier for me to learn by using English, but when I started use Korean to learn the basis, comparing to others, I have realized many things. Ah, such as when we want to express something, we use this word in Korean, in Japanese, we use a different word, and then use another word to express the same thing in English; from that, I would find a common word and grammar structure to best express those 3 words. I learn a little bit slower than the other two because I have to spent time doing that process.

KARA, who is currently leading the Hallyu wave alongside SNSD in Japan, will be running a similar schedule to SNSD’s. On Christmas Eve, the girls will be in Japan for “Music Station”, and will return to Korea on Christmas Day for MBC’s “Show! Music Core.” Goo Hara will also be attending KBS’s “Entertainment Awards” as an “Invincible Youth” member.

[News] Japan's Rookie All-Kill, Kara "Unrivaled-Japan's Best Rookies by 10 Times"

Whether it's record sales or mobile sales, Kara achieved an electrifying all-kill in Japan music charts.

It was recently revealed that Kara achieved an all-kill on Japan annual charts for #1 rookie. Based on all the sales, Kara was ranked the #1 newcomer and also was in the top 10 amongst all singers for the year.

On Dec 20th, Oricon revealed that Kara's music sales were #1 amongst newcomers this year. "Debuting in August of this year with the hip dance, Kara's 2 singles, and , Korean album and first full-length album, plus DVDs - totaling 8 items, sold 493,000 copies total and garnered 13 hundred million Yen." This was 10 times more than other rookies in 2010. They appear to be unrivaled in the newcomer market. Furthermore Kara's first full-length album is nearing the 200k mark within one month, truly securing their place in the industry.

In addition to record sales, Kara has also been doing well in mobile downloads. Japan's mobile site Recochoku recently selected Kara as this year's top rookies, since they were #1 on charts such as ringtone downloads and music video. Kara was also voted as #5 on this year's MVP artists poll.

On Dec 9th, Japan's iTunes chart revealed that was #14 on its annual chart. It's the highest rank out of the rookies this year.

In addition, Kara did well in USEN's rookie rankings. USEN recently revealed that was ranked #18 for the year. USEN looks at hit song rankings, song requests and broadcasts to measure their overall ranking.

In truth, Kara hardly seems like rookies in the Japanese music industry. Kara is already receiving top-star level treatment in Japan with a very promising future. There are also rumors that broadcasting companies and commercials are all competing to get Kara on their show or advertisement.

Aside from just these numbers, public sentiment also reflects an explosive level of popularity. Japan's biggest mobile phone has selected Kara to be the main characters in a drama that will be aired in January to launch their phone model "au." There are also plans for Kara to be the main characters in a game that is being created by a famous game company. Japan's Karaoke charts have Kara's ranked as the #1 song for the months of Nov and Dec, revealing Kara's popularity potential.

[News] Nicole's Warm Congratulations to IU's #1

IU's popularity has been sky-rocketing recently, and she finally received affirmation. On SBS Inkigayo on the 19th, IU received the mutizen award, which is her first solo award.

Instead of seeming uncomfortable about the results, Nicole's reaction was completely different. After the award was given, Nicole's reactions were completely pure and heart-feltedly congratulating IU. She flew over to IU and gave her a huge hug and was really happy for her.

IU and Nicole are currently both part of the SBS show , and their strong friendship could be felt. Even though they were technically competitors, she didn't seem to be disappointed in the outcome at all. Instead of just turning and walking away, her actions created a beautiful moment. Besides Nicole, Jiyeon was also there congratulating IU. Thus we were able to see the strong friendship between the three of them, who are the youngest members of the Heroes cast.

The warm hearts of Nicole and Jiyeon created a happy atmosphere on Inkigayo. Hope all three of them continue to succeed!

In the month of November, the RIAJ (Recording Industry Association of Japan) has certified KARA’s “Mister” as Platinum, KARA’s “Jumpin” as Gold, SNSD’s “Gee” as Gold, and SNSD’s “GENIE” as Gold in the “Chaku-Uta Full” section.

[News] KARA’s “KARA Jumping” app ranks first on Japan’s iTunes App store chart

 

KARA’s ventures in Japan have been nothing short of a complete success this year. They’ve grabbed various top spots on the Japanese ranking chart, Recochoku, for their singles and music videos – even securing #1 for the “New Artist” category.

The girls have done it again with their free music app, “KARA Jumping“, as it pulled them in the #1 spot for the ‘free music category’ on Japan’s iTunes App store chart.

The application was first revealed on December 4th without any official promotions, and earned 50,000 downloads within 10 days of its release through ‘word-of-mouth’ by iPhone users.

Many positive reviews have been made for the app, with Japanese downloaders commenting, “It’s a high quality application that makes it hard to believe that it’s free. I am truly enjoying this,” and “It’s great to be able to see high quality videos of KARA through apps.”

Despite there being a Korean version of the application, 90% of the app’s worldwide downloads come from Japan. A representative of production company Danal commented, “KARA’s popularity in Japan exceeds anything imaginable.”

There's been a lot of hand-wringing this year about South Korea threatening to overtake Japan in everything from international diplomacy to technology. In pop music, though, it's already happened. The chart-topping success of now-defunct boy band TVXQ (known as Tohoshinki in Japan) was just a prelude for the current wave of Korean girl groups, who are exposing the wanness of the local talent with their impeccable dance routines, vocal chops and infuriatingly catchy melodies.

After gaining a strong Japanese following via YouTube and import releases, these groups are now making their full-fledged "debuts" here, complete with major-label backing. Kara have scored the biggest success so far, with their Japanese-language "Girl's Talk" selling more than 107,000 copies during its first week of release last month. It's an object lesson in good pop, clocking in at barely over half an hour and dripping with memorable hooks. Half of the tracks are re-recorded Japanese versions of earlier Korean hits, and can be considered improvements only in the sense that they're easier to sing at karaoke. Of the remainder, recent single "Jumpin' " successfully rehabilitates 1980s Europop, while only "SOS" breaks the golden rule of never outstaying your welcome. Tellingly, it's one of two contributions by J-pop producer ArmySling.

4Minute make less of an effort to localize with "Diamond," which compiles new material alongside songs from their first two Korean EPs, only some of them in (heavily accented) Japanese. If Kara tap into the legacy of '80s idol pop, the 4Minute's music is more in step with current Western trends. Vocals are rapped or swathed in autotune, and the arrangements are a splendid mess of hip-hop rhythms and rave synthesizers. "Muzik" and "First" appropriate Daft Punk electro tropes to entertaining effect, while "Already Gone" is a disarmingly sweet slab of effervescent R&B. Even at its most derivative, it's heaps of fun. J-pop makers should probably start taking some notes.

Gyuri: Leader and Goddess of Beauty in KARA. Looks unapproachable but in fact she's like a mother to the other members. She has professional level cooking skills.


SeungYeon: Bright, smiling and has a sociable personality. Outspoken and doesn't lie. She works hard and is alone usually.


Nicole: She is a Fashion Leader. She is 4-D with her words and she's embarrassing to be around (b/c of the that), she's the playful type and one of her hobbies are "impulse buys".


Hara: A beauty and is Cool. She can't stand pressure. Likes a man who can lead.


Jiyoung: Young and innocent, very pampered. She is the most Cool and Calm. Asks the other members for advice.

I'm not entirely sure about this but you can kind of figure that one thing about each member is a bit off well with the exception of Hara's and Jing's cause I'm not sure about theirs but Gyul's that she is a pro at cooking? lol Sy being Outspoken? [News] Viewers touched by KARA’s Nicole work ethic in SBS “Heroes”

The ladies of SBS’s “Heroes” opened a one-day restaurant a few weeks back in order to garner considerable profits, which they would then donate 100% of to a charitable organization that helps starving children.

The episode finally broadcasted on December 12th, and viewers got to see how the women were divided up in order to cook the food.

KARA’s Nicole, IU, Shin Bong Sun, No Sa Yeon, Yoo In Na, and Narsha were on the ‘tonkatsu’ team and showed much determination in getting all of the orders completed under the directions of Shin Bong Sun.

Nicole in particular stood out from her teammates as her tireless work ethic drove her on to work hard to complete her task; she concentrated so furiously on frying the meat properly that she didn’t even rest, despite the fact that the task took up hours. Whenever she made a minor mistake, she would immediately apologize and attempt to remedy the situation.

Viewers were especially impressed with how wholeheartedly Nicole threw herself into her work, without a single care for sullying her pretty idol image. She was often seen furrowing her brows or cringing as she concentrated on her station. Nicole even burned her hand at one point after quickly picking up a piece of meat that had just been fried, due to the delay in orders going out.

Although those around her worried by asking if she was okay and told her to take a break by washing her hands, Nicole said that she was okay and continued working in her station.

Viewers left glowing responses to her work ethic with, “Nicole really was working hard. She wasn’t like an idol at all,” “I saw how genuine Nicole was, I was almost upset for her,” and “It must’ve been hard staying in front of the hot oil like that all day, she’s amazing.”

Although Nicole had oil splattered all over face, her hair in a tangled mess, and her hand was burnt, viewers were moved by how much more beautiful she was there by the deep fryer than on stage.

Aww so Happy there was actually an article :) I think people get confused, it's not that people focus on Nicole's personality because she's "not pretty enough" it's because how she conducts herself/carries herself stands out way more than looks etc.
