Korean girl groups’ monetary profits earned in Japan during the past year have been revealed.
According to the results posted by Oricon that reported gross sales album numbers for 2011 (Dec 27th 2010 through December 19th 2011), girl group KARA earned over $63 million, while Girls’ Generation raked in earnings of over $52 million. Of all the artists to promote in Japan overall, KARA came in 4th overall in revenue, while Girls’ Generation came in at fifth place.
Famous J-pop group AKB48 who triumphed the K-pop girl groups earned a whopping $211 million, while boy group Arashi came in at #2 earning $199 million, followed by EXILE who earned $72 million.
A year before, KARA & Girls’ Generation came in at #1 & #2 who earned the most in Japan as rookies with $16 million and $11 million respectively. In just a single year, both groups’ profits have grown by 500%. The numbers reported by the Oricon exclude the profits made from miscellaneous promotions such as performances, CFs, royalties, and more.
