I feel like a lot of these people just talk.
KARA members have thin voices, it doesn't mean they can't sing. It's not only about having a massive voice that makes one a good singer.
Though I think the people who formed this opinion judged on KARA's songs and those aren't exactly an example of wonderful vocal moments.. Also that the lead role in songs is really taken by 3 members (GyulHamCole) .. KARA's music doesn't require a strong vocal.. and it works for them.
But then again KARA were called "failures" at one time, they will just use this as motivation to work their butts off and climb their way higher to the top :)
P.S. I can think of world famous artists that aren't strong vocally but are running to the bank so.. meh :D
I agree completely with you. I was reading the article earlier today on allkpop and was like "wth?". I agree that they aren't the best out there, but they definitely aren't the worst. I could list so many other groups that can't sing and aren't even half as good as they are. I mean common, I'm not going to take this article seriously when they put After School second on the worst list. I've heard them all sing individually and they aren't bad at all.
ReplyDeleteAbout half the list I disagree with.
ReplyDeleteAccording to the translated article, the rank "the best and worst sounding idol groups and idol group members". KARA is definitely not the worst sounding group, and the those they chose as the best are so overrated, IMO.
KARA has probably the best harmony and cohesion of all groups out there. Their sweet voices match each other perfectly, and they always sing with such motivation and charisma that it makes the listener want to keep listening. That's what good singers do.
Now my gripe against the singers they chose as best. I can't comment on male singers as I don't pay attention to them. As for the females, Taeyeon and Hyorin are so overrated. Taeyeon has some skills and stability live. However, she doesn't really have that great range--her high notes don't sound good at all--and she doesn't express feelings that well. Yelling without feelings is not singing. Hyorin has great lungs, no doubt. But she shows off too much, and when she does, she loses control and goes off key.
Now, I want to nominate my favorite idol female vocalist, Raina from After School. Raina can belt just as well as Taeyeon and Hyorin. Not only that, she sings difficult parts without straining--unlike Taeyeon--and she never goes over top like a show-off. Even when she belts, she maintains control of her tone--unlike Hyorin. Lastly, Raina has a unique voice--very noticeable when she hits the high notes--and she has great ranges in terms of pitch, style (she can fluidly switch between rap and R&B), and emotion.
Forgot about BEG. “Their live singing pitch and breath has always been maintained very well. Emotions are also expressed well,” expressed one critique. Ironic, I watched one of their performance on Youtube, and they sounded really tired and unmotivated and lacking charisma. I've heard a couple of their songs--Sign and Abracadabra--and frankly, not only do neither of those songs display their great singing skills, they really bore me as a listener.
ReplyDeletejust because i'm a Kamilia its not really bias when i also agree that those poll are unfounded and ignorant , just because its stated coming from "numerous professionals from the music industry" still doesn't make it sound legit to me LOL
ReplyDeleteimo KARA probably not the best in vocal (i admit there's still other names who really outstanding in Kpop) but they definitely not the worst either. Not only because their image, but nowadays they haven't really got the chance to showcase their full ability, while in their earlier era they actually shows that many talent like dance skill or singing live, but that facts maybe forgotten by those numerous professional LOL
they maybe not 5 mariah carey, but they definitely not 5 rebecca black either (don't have anything againts her though XD)...the thing about KARA is that they more of a collective work rather than one shining member so thats why i guess their individual talent always got underrated
and as you said "But then again KARA were called "failures" at one time, they will just use this as motivation to work their butts off and climb their way higher to the top"...couldn't agree more with it XD
plus they still one of the girlgroups that rarely use autotune in their songs even from their debut album till now, even if they use it its just minimal and not a whole song
ReplyDelete^^ LOL NOV @
ReplyDelete"they maybe not 5 mariah carey, but they definitely not 5 rebecca black either"
hahha omg that's hilarious XD
I totally agree with you guys....they are not the best but they are not the worst...even though they don't have those powerful voices, it does not mean they have to be the worst.
ReplyDeleteActually I think they have best voices that suit my taste..their voices sound best when they harmonize...that why they are named KARA!!
For my point of view, those with great voices claimed in the article may not pull off KARA songs that well as KARA!
urgh!!after i read this yesterday..i was so mad!!!they must b so anti with kara..im saying that bcoz..if u see~kara is not the worst..im not saying they are vocaly the best but they really improve, look at nicole, gyul, jing n hara really improve their vocal, while seungyeon is maintaining her strenght..thay abseloutly not the worst~how can they say they are the worst..we can see other girl group that more worst..not gonna mention it..we have each opinion..but even if someone is stupid about music can know kara voice is good enough n can made people cry..
ReplyDeleteurgh..i really hate the person who vote..
