[Translations] KARA'S Taiwan Press Conference Translations

[The MC explained that Gyuri’s throat was not well, so she would not be able to speak loudly, and she would speak sparingly.]

[Q&A from the MC]

Q: Is this your first trip to Taiwan?
SY: Yes, it’s our first trip to Taiwan. The flight was delayed, and we kept everyone waiting for so long. Thank you for waiting for us.

Q: Before coming to Taiwan, did you do any research/preparation work?
NC: I’ve asked my friends who came to Taiwan before on what food is great in Taiwan, and everyone said the pearl milk bubble tea. So I want to try it on this trip.

Q: What are your expectations for the fan meeting? Do you have anything special prepared for your fans?
SY: This is our first fan meeting in Taiwan. We prepared a lot, and came here feeling very excited/nervous. What we’ve prepared I won’t reveal now, but we hope everyone will have good memories.

Q: It’s KARA’s 5th anniversary, during these 5 years’ long journey, were there any difficult moments or moments that leave the deepest impression?
GR: There were many sad/difficult moments during these 5 years, there were also changes and we added new members Hara and Jiyoung. With everybody’s support, we will work harder, and become a more mature KARA.

Q: Hara is considered a relatively new member. Any thoughts?
HR: I’m considered a new member, together with Jiyoung. I feel lucky to have joined KARA. I will be more determined to work hard for KARA.

Q: Jiyoung?
JY: I joined KARA and made my debut when I was very young and didn’t know anything. But the unnies and staff members have guided and looked after me well. I still have a lot to learn, but I’ll work hard to learn, and work hard during our activities.

[MC asked the floor for 3 questions.]

Q: In Korea, there was a report that KARA was voted one of the shortest girl groups, but in photos they always look tall, pretty and the proportions are very good, what are your views?
(KARA laughed)
SY (laughing): This is the first time we’re asked this question. Even though we’re not very tall, but thanks to the stylist unnies, who always choose the right clothes for us, that helps us a lot. So we have to thank the stylist unnies. Nicole? (Nicole agreed and made the same point.)

Q: Since you disembarked from the plane till now, what is your impression of Taiwanese fans?
HR: This is our first time in Taiwan, so we didn’t expect many fans. But when we saw so many fans at the airport, we felt very grateful. I was thinking, “from now on we need to work harder in Taiwan”, and “oh, there are so many people who love KARA”. I really feel very grateful.

MC: Were you shocked to see so many people?
SY: We don’t often see so many fans gathered together, so we were really surprised. But the fans were very orderly, and there was no safety issue, so we were grateful and happy.

Q: KARA will be leaving Taiwan on Sunday morning. But during this few days, there is another Korean band Beast in Taiwan who will be holding a concert, do you know about this?
[Awkward silence]
MC (Joking): Everybody’s looking at each other, maybe look at Hara will do.
GR: This is the first time we’re hearing…
SY: Yes, we really do not know this, so thank you for telling us. We’re so proud and happy that there are so many K-Pop bands coming to Taiwan for activities.

MC: If you have the time, will you meet with them?
SY: I think with our busy schedules we won’t be able to meet…
MC (Joking): Since you know each other’s schedule, it means you should know each other is here...

MC: The 5th anniversary is a very significant milestone, what are your views on the future of KARA?
HR: It’s been 5 years since KARA’s debut, I feel it has been incredible. We still have a lot of time in the future. We will hold more activities in Korea and also overseas. We will become an even more hardworking KARA, and a more mature KARA.
JY: It’s been 4 years since Hara unnie and I made our debut, but for KARA it’s been 5 years. Time passes so fast it’s incredible. There were so many things that happened in the past, but now I almost cannot remember which ones were particularly tough or difficult. In the future, if we face any challenges, we will work hard together and overcome them.
NC: The 5th anniversary gives me the impression that it came faster than expected. This morning I still had the feeling like it was still my debut, and I was still a trainee. These memories are still in my heart. I think KARA still has a lot to offer that we haven’t showed everyone. We will work even harder in the future, and show these to everyone.

(Cake cutting…)
SY: This is our first cake for the 5th anniversary. Thank you everyone!

MC: What are your thoughts on cutting the first cake for the 5th anniversary?
JY: Because our schedules are so busy, we did not even have a party to celebrate the 5th anniversary. We did not expect the Taiwan media to prepare such a good present for us. The cake has so many colours and it’s so pretty. We as KARA will also let everyone see our pretty side.

(KARA members were presented with pineapples, which symbolise prosperity and good luck. The translator translated it into Daebak!)
